Freethought is liberty, equality, and fraternity in the domain of politics. These are not assumptions, but verities. As Freethought recognizes the unity of existence it must also recognize the equality of rights. I use it in the most comprehensive sense, as an intellectual, moral, industrial, political, and social power. I mean scientific freedom, not a mere capricious freedom. I mean freedom devoted to high ends. I mean doubt for the truth's sake. I mean facts correlated into a vast and splendid system of noble philosophy. I mean liberty whose expression is law, whose spirit is universal equality and universal brotherhood.
